As you may have noticed, youtube has started offering some videos in a higher quality. What is this and does this mean youtube will eventually go HD?
A few weeks ago youtube rolled out 480×360 video playback. The videos play with less artifacts and are generally better looking. It is a step up from the old resolution.
Will this mean youtube will eventually go HD? Unfortunately no, at least not in the near future. We still dont have a solid replacement for the recently shutdown Stage6.

With the announcement of the Sims 3 this week, one cant but help to wonder whether The Sims 3 will be usable for machinima. As many of you probably know, the previous version of The Sims was used to create machinima with limited success.
What are all of your guys’ view on The Sims 3?
This will be a three part series on the game engines used to film machinima on.
To begin this series, we will explore the past of machinima. A little digging down to the roots.
Stunt Island

This is what really started machinima. Released in 1992 by Disney Interactive, the game allowed people to “stunt” and film there stunts. You could position cameras, create pans as well as splice together taped footage to complete your own little stunt video.
1993 saw the release of Doom. The game was benchmark in many regards. You were now able to record in game events and play them back in real-time.
