As you may have noticed, the design of the blog is still changing. Being only 16 days young, I am still trying to find the perfect match between form and function. With that being said, please dont mind that stuff still may not work 100% correctly or look perfect.

So you want some exposure to people, eh? Well thats what Im going to tell you how to do.

1. Have something worthwhile and with quality
It goes without saying that unless some fluke happens, you are going to need something people our going to watch. Work on your skills, and know what you are doing. With how vast the internet is anymore, resources are available EVERYWHERE so use them.

2. Network
Before you can be the community, you must be part of it first. That means hang out at the popular blogs, forums and websites. You will be surprised when you find that knowing the
webmaster of your favorite site will land you front page upon your movie release.

3. Join a community
Although the internet being so big has its advantages, it also has its disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages is the fact that individuals are often overlooked. Join a community that has similar goals as yourself and they can help you get noticed. Two men are twice as strong as one, now just imagine a whole community.

NOT RECOMMENDED WAYS OF MAKING IT BIG
These are every increasing tactics on the internet but dont do them. They are lame and end up hiding the real talent.

1. False youtube titles and promotion.
The ever increasing idea of misinforming a viewer so they will click and watch you video is not a good one. Sure it will give you alot of views and publicity but it will end up biting you in the ass.

2. Spamming other blogs about your content
Dont use other peoples blog comment sections for your own promotion. It only makes it a pain in the ass for the blog owner to clean out all the junk. Instead make an interesting and RELEVANT comment about that topic at hand. A well written comment will get you more clicks then pure self-promotion.

A few days ago, I talked about a site called Video Copilot. The site is designed to assist people with After-Effects. Today I am going to bring you a site called VFX Talk.

VFX Talk is a website that caters to video effects and CG artists. Although this site is more advanced then Video Copilot, don’t be deterred. This site is a gold mine of knowledge and is definitely worth a bookmark. The tutorials section brings you the latest from cmivfx while the news section gives you the latest industry news. Probably the most valuable asset on this website though is the forums. From beginners to professionals, many people use the forums while sharing a wealth of knowledge.

Happy exploring.

A short little series based upon Half-Life.

1. Get a special effects program.
This sort of goes without saying. The first thing you need is a program to create special effects in. There are a plethora of options out there to choose from. The most popular offering would have to be Adobe’s After Effects.

2. Learn the basics
Before you can create anything advanced, you need to know the basics to the program you are going to use. You did learn to walk before you ran after all. Go through the manual/ help section of your software and make sure you know what buttons do what and how to change settings and preferences.

3. Use tutorials
Every special effects artist has to begin somewhere and tutorials are a great place to start. There is a wide variety available, some free and some not. Cmivfx and Andrew Kramer offer great tutorials and resources

4. Practice, Practice, Practice
Practice all those new techniques you learned in the tutorials until you have a good understanding of the concept. Although frustrating, you will slowly see your ability improve and improve.

Good luck!

Andrew Kramer has a site called Video Copilot which has tutorials and a blog as well as a few products.

The tutorials cover a vast range of things that you can do within Adobe After Effects. It is a good resource for you budding special effects guys.

The blog talks about the tutorials and also gives you more tips. A good site to have bookmarked for future reference.
